The "suicide" is a dangerous breakdance move, beginning with a standing front flip and then landing flat on your back. Be careful if you are going to attempt it, especially protecting your tongue from being bitten and your feet slamming the floor. Please see our advisory concerning all breakdance moves before you attempt this.
This breakdance move can be obtained by first hitting the "component" moves that make up it's whole. You would want to start with being able to do a forward roll, where you place your heads out in front of you, essentially rolling down the coarse of your back smoothly onto the floor, eventually resting in a flat horizontal position. You would want to get into the practice of lifting your head slightly off the ground during this so that you get the sensation that your head will need to be protected. Of course, you should try this on a soft surface with plenty of room and adult supervision. So after the forward head roll occurs naturally for you, you will want to add the next step, which is, to have your arms stretched out and slap the floor with your palms facing the floor. This slap, helps add to the dramatic experience by creating a loud slap, as if you just crashed to the floor, it is very impressive sounding when you do it right. So in succession, you forward roll, keep your head slightly lifted throughout and then after completing the roll you let the momentum of your arms while being outstretched, slap the floor, palms facing down.
Landing flat on your back, looks like it will hurt, and it will until you get it right. The next part of the forward roll is designed to help take out the sting and really keep you from actually killing yourself during the move. With your feet, this is VERY Important, at the completion of the forward roll, you will want to have one foot outstretched and lifted off the ground. This is to protect your ankles from whipping around and slamming on the floor. You will want the other leg to be bent with your foot flat on the floor, like it is when your standing. You will want the foot that is not in the crowd's view to be this bent leg, because it will be hidden from their view by the lifted straightened leg. This flat foot is used to stop your fall after flipping. In essence, this bent leg, and flat foot serves as the cushion for all the momentum created during your flip. When doing your forward head roll you will want to include having your leg bent and foot flat on the floor. From the roll, the succession would be rolling over, arms out, palms to the floor, head lifted, one leg ("closest to the crowd") straight and lifted and the "back" or hidden leg, bent with foot solid on the floor.
To get to the full cycle of the suicide you will want to progressively advance through "forward rolls" until you are able to achieve these elements in a nice balance. You should also consider practicing slapping the ground with your arms and palms, while hitting the floor with your bent leg and foot. The timing of this is very important. Remember, breakdance moves can be dangerous, so protect yourself and have a trainer spot you.
Now as you progress through the rolls and get comfortable, you will find your timing and confidence increasing, it is still important to keep a pace. The setup for the front flip, that is, the ability to create the forward thrust, will come from the collective motion of several parts of your body, the head, your arms, and your leading leg. How these relate is as follows. When you are standing, you will have one leg planted to the ground. This leg is the leg that will also, break the fall, by being bent and flat footed at the completion of the flip. So this leg will be the "hidden" leg. The other leg will be lifted lick you are kicking out, and then will swing from full extension in front of you, serving like a pendulum, swinging to behind you. It is the momentum of this swing that you will time with your head and arms. So as the leg reaches the fullness of the backward swing, you will thrust your head forward, as if you were looking to the ground, allowing your upper body to experience a tucking movement. Your arms, especially the same arm as the leading leg should also also, cycle down like you are pounding a hammer and then should flow nicely into the position needed for slapping of the ground after the flip. Your planted leg should immediately be tucked and prepared to be bent so as to stop fall. So in succession, we have front leg swing, pounding arm lifting, both swinging backwards to create energy, head tucking in towards a fetal position, arms opening up as you flip over and turned to the floor, ready to be timed with the bent leg to stop the fall to create the "slam" factor, head stays lifted, mouth stays shut and tongue out of the way from teeth, and leading swinging leg never touches the ground.
